FAQ

What’s the difference between a string quartet, trio or duo? Which should I choose?
A string quartet is a group consisting of four string players – two Violinists, a Viola and a Cello. The trio consists of either two Violins and a Cello or one Violin, a Viola and a Cello. The duo is made up of one Violinist and one Cellist.
The main difference between the ensembles is fullness of sound. A duet is typically comprised of melody and bass line or chords. A larger ensemble such as a string trio or quartet has more voices that fill in the middle, the harmony. The more harmony added, the more cohesive and powerful the sound can be. That said, a string duo is definitely not a lesser ensemble. It can actually suit the atmosphere of a smaller, more intimate wedding ceremony.
When choosing an ensemble while budget is often a deciding factor it is important to consider the number of guests, your venue and it’s acoustics, as this will play a large role in determining how an ensemble’s sound will project.

What do you need to set up in the church/venue?
All we need are armless chairs we will provide the rest!

What type of music do you play?
We usually play a mixture of light classical music and popular and contemporary songs.
Ultimately, however, the type of music we play is up to you and we will work with you to design your ideal playlist.
Initially we will email you a list of various pieces and songs that are commonly played at different points in the wedding ceremony. These lists contain both classical and modern choices. You by no means have to choose any of the music from the list, but this serves as a guide for deciding what music you may like performed on your big day.

Do you take special requests? What happens if you don’t have a song or a piece that I love in your current repertoire?
Absolutely! In fact, we relish playing something that we know is special to you.
If we don’t currently have a piece of music that you are looking for, we ensure to put together an arrangement for the ensemble that is totally unique for you.
Never be afraid to ask for exactly what you dream of walking down the aisle to!

Will you play music as my guests are arriving at the wedding venue/event?
Yes, it is one of our standard services to play for a minimum of 15 minutes as guests are arriving to your wedding venue and awaiting the arrival of the bride.

We are planning on booking a singer for our wedding. Can you provide accompaniment for a singer?
Yes, we have extensive experience working with singers of all levels of proficiency – from professional wedding singers to friends or members of family. We simply ask you for the contact details of the singer and can arrange all the necessary details ourselves.
We are always happy to pass on our recommendations for singers (male or female) also, if you are wondering where to start.

Will you perform outdoors?
Yes, we are happy to play outside as long as weather permits.
As the instruments are made from wood we cannot play in direct strong sunlight but we can play in a shaded area. If it is raining or even drizzling we cannot perform outdoors as even light rain will damage the instruments.

Do the musicians need to attend the wedding rehearsal?
It is not necessary for us to attend the wedding rehearsal, we are experienced and understand the format of a wedding ceremony. If there is some important point that needs to be made, then this can be discussed by the musicians on the day with the celebrant.
